The combination of resonant laser ionization, nuclear spectroscopy and mass measurements allows the deconvolution of the low-energy structure of atomic nuclei. Three β-decaying isomers of Cu have been unambiguously identified with the Penning trap mass spectrometer ISOLTRAP.
